Calabaza de Castilla Winter Squash Seeds. Cucurbita moschata. Annual. Heirloom, Non-GMO. Open Pollinated. 100 to 110 days to full maturity. This winter squash pumpkin variety has rustic light brown color hard skin, with deep sutures at full maturity. Large fruit weigh about 15-20 lbs. The flesh is a rich deep orange to make your Calabaza en tacha, Mexican candied pumpkin and creamy pumpkin pie filling. This winter squash is also known as a traditional variety of France, Musquee de Provence, or Fairytale. Vigorous vines. Prepare fertile, well-drained soil. Sow seeds in late spring to early summer after last frost in a warm, sunny location. Warm soil is essential, 70F. Hill planting: Form soil into a 1-ft. diameter mound 3-4" tall. Space mounds 4-8' apart. On each mound plant 1-2 seeds. Row planting: See spacing info in chart. Keep soil moist. Fertilize as needed. After harvest, winter squash should be left in the sun for a few days to cure before storing. Prepare Calabaza en tacha, Mexican candied pumpkin and creamy pumpkin pie filling.
